My Journey at Moje Solutions: Unleashing Marketing Potential and Driving Impact.

Reflecting on my enriching experience as a Marketing Executive at Moje Solutions Limited, I am thrilled to share the transformative journey I embarked on with this innovative micro business in Wolverhampton, UK. In this article, I will delve into my role, the invaluable skills I acquired, and the remarkable achievements I accomplished while thriving in a highly dynamic environment.
Setting the Stage
On the 8th of June 2022, just as I was completing my SEO internship with Tungaloy UK, I received a message from my lecturer, Hajrija. She introduced me to Moje Solutions, an emerging company focusing on sustainability and innovation. Recognizing my potential, Ms Hajrija recommended me for a marketing position within the organization, aligning perfectly with my career aspirations and Interest in working with MSMEs. Eager to apply my theoretical knowledge from my MSc program at the University of Wolverhampton, I accepted the opportunity and had the privilege of meeting the CEO, who offered me the position without hesitation.
Commencing the Journey
Upon commencing my role as a marketing Executive at Moje Solutions, I found myself as the sole on-site staff member responsible for all marketing efforts. And given that the business was a few months old when I joined, there was little or no marketing activity. Hence, the need to build and nurture a marketing presence. The magnitude of the tasks ahead was both challenging and overwhelming. A myriad of responsibilities awaited me, including
- Website Redesign
- Comprehensive website copywriting
- Customer segmentation and defining the target audience,
- Crafting effective communication strategies
- Refining the product's unique value proposition
- Establishing a social media presence, developing an integrated marketing plan
- Developing market penetration strategies,
- Identifying new and emerging markets and
- Generating valuable leads for our unique product.
Initially, the weight of these responsibilities threatened to dampen my marketing enthusiasm. However, I soon recognized this as a golden opportunity to apply my previous experience, training, and knowledge I was gaining from my MSc curriculum to build and effect real change in the business.
Navigating the Challenges
I lacked a direct line manager, yet I had a ton of support from the university staff, including Dr Imran Khan, Ms Hajrija and Dr Magede. Their occasional visit, having access to ask questions and get professional help, and encouragement were highly beneficial. I adopted a systematic approach to prioritize and tackle each task individually. Drawing upon the principles of SMART objectives and Gantt charts, as imparted by Dr Imran during my studies, I set small, attainable goals and aimed for daily tangible results. This approach proved highly effective, leading to strategic recognition and validation of my efforts. Within the first week, I received a raise, and this pattern repeated itself in the subsequent weeks. Through my role at Moje Solutions, I've understood that marketing entails more than merely social media posting and hashtag usage. It necessitates thorough research, analytical thinking, cross-functional teamwork, and effective communication with stakeholders who may possess limited familiarity with the intricacies of marketing. Consequently, I quickly learned to communicate marketing strategies in an understandable and impactful manner, breaking down efforts and measuring return on investment (ROI) aligned with overarching business objectives.
Empowering Collaboration and Streamlining Workflow
With remote team members contributing to the overall business objective, I recognized the importance of efficient task delegation and progress tracking. To address this, I introduced the business to Trello—a collaborative Project Management platform that revolutionized our workflow. Utilizing this unified system, we could seamlessly collaborate, ensuring transparency and streamlined progress monitoring. Consequently, our productivity soared, and we successfully executed projects within the framework of a harmonized workflow.
Strength in Numbers: Expanding the Team
After a month of extensive marketing groundwork, including conducting due diligence and managing a team of UI/UX and web developers to revamp two websites, I realized that the workload necessitated additional support. Therefore, I recommended my classmate Abimbola Adenmosun to join the team. Her speciality was social media. With her arrival, she assumed responsibility for social media management and research-related tasks. Together, we crafted a sustainable digital presence, significantly advancing three notable projects for Moje Solutions.
Celebrating Accomplishments
Over the past seven months, I have been privileged to lead and oversee a highly successful marketing and design team. Leveraging the available resources, we have made remarkable contributions to developing three outstanding projects. Among our notable achievements are:
- Social Media and Web Presence: We are Establishing and nurturing a robust web presence and engaging social media accounts. We cultivated an audience of over 5,000 across relevant platforms in less than seven months, built a thriving Facebook community, and consistently delivered value to our audience, aligning with business objectives.
- Brand Identity: We are creating a compelling brand identity for Moje Solutions and its product lines. Recognizing the influence of brand identity, we dedicated substantial time and effort to ensure that Moje Solutions stood out with a unique and captivating brand presence. We identified the suitable colour scheme, Typography, and Communications tone, which we currently use across all communications material.
- Marketing Plans and Strategy: For a start-up, plans and strategies are invaluable. I am proud to have continuously initiated and supported some successful strategies at Moje Solutions, including Go-To-Market plans. The team and I have also developed and executed various organic and paid marketing plans and campaigns. With a conversion rate of at least 40% for each campaign, we consistently met our campaign objectives.
- My Theory Aid App: One of my proudest projects with Moje Solutions is the My Theory Aid Multi-lingual Driving Theory Test App. I'm so pleased to be working and playing a pivotal role in developing an innovative product with the potential to effect positive change within Driving Education in the UK with a focus on helping non-English speakers integrate into society seamlessly.
Occasionally, I represented the business at lecture Seminars and boot camps where I shared extensively what the company does, our product line and available internship opportunities for students.
Beyond Marketing: A Wealth of Growth
In addition to the gratifying remuneration and the harmonious relationships I forged with my colleagues and CEO, my time at Moje Solutions has enriched me in various other areas. Due to the diverse nature of the business, I have expanded my skill set beyond marketing, acquiring proficiencies in project management, product marketing, and stakeholder management. Moje Solutions allowed me to lead and inspire a team, encouraging flexibility, creativity, and tangible change. As an innovative enterprise, my involvement in diverse projects has broadened my horizons and altered my perspective on numerous aspects.
Expressing Gratitude and Embracing the Future
I am immensely grateful to Ms Hajrija, who saw me fit to join a business like Moje Solution in its infant state, everyone who worked with me and currently working with me at Moje Solutions, Hussan Lal, for placing his trust in a young MSc student like myself, empowering me to make impactful marketing decisions and contributing to the growth of his business. The experiences I have gained at Moje Solutions have instilled in me a steadfast commitment to continuous learning, personal growth, and the pursuit of real change wherever my journey may lead me.
As I look ahead, the future remains uncertain, but my optimism remains unwavering. I am dedicated to embracing new challenges, nurturing my skills, and making a lasting impact wherever my professional path takes me.
