Tourism and Events and Venue Management Student Experience

Hello, my name is Baseera Maude. I am currently studying Tourism and Events and Venue management at the University of Wolverhampton, and I would like to share my student experience so far with you.

So, during my years of studying this course, I found some modules enjoyable and some very challenging.

I can tell you that it’s been a journey, especially during the times we had to do online lessons due to covid. I can tell you that’s one of the most challenging moments for me as I found it very difficult, and I am sure others did too. However, I learned many things, such as time management and budgeting, which equipped me for a great future career.

Therefore, Tourism and Event Management at the University of Wolverhampton is a forward-thinking and dynamic programme ideal for all those passionate about tourism’s social, economic, and cultural issues.

After you graduate, you will have a broad range of career choices in this ever-expanding and challenging market. As I am in my third year of study, I hope to become an event planner.

An event planner is a professional responsible for organising and coordinating meetings and special events, such as ceremonies, parties, weddings, corporate gatherings and fundraisers.

The course at the University of Wolverhampton also exposed me to a wide range of media and technologies used in special events management, which I loved.

Is this profession for you?

Have you ever attended an event and said to yourself: if I organised that, it would be better! Have you seen an event in your local area and thought I could do that? If so, then events management is for you!

Proving that, one of my most outstanding achievements was planning and decorating a Muslim wedding (Nikkah), which I was so pleased and grateful for as I was able to help the bride and work around the budget and achieve my goals. This was an experience that I am most proud of as I used my skills and knowledge to practice.

Therefore, I can recommend for any future event planners that even if you do not get any work experience or cannot use your skills, start with something small like birthday decors or even just practice at home. It does not even need to be a special occasion! In addition, try to use online resources to help you because that’s one thing that helped me so much, and I really hope this helps you all.

One last piece of advice – always follow your dreams and goals that you hope to achieve, and don’t let anyone tell you you can’t because YOU CAN!!
