‘Busy-bees’ and our IoD Student Mentoring programme celebration event
This time of year, all our students are ‘busy-bees’; working hard to get those last few assessments in before the summer break. No more so than our final year students; juggling multiple deadlines and adding that final touch to achieve the best they can, in their final year modules. Students on our IoD Student Mentoring programme will have been especially busy, juggling these commitments and their mentoring commitments too.
This time of year marks the end of our IoD Student Mentoring programme for the class of 2021/22.
The students and their mentors have worked together as hugely ‘busy-bees’ to enhance CVs, to apply for graduate jobs, to prepare for and attend mock interview practice events and ultimately to attend the interviews for the job of their dreams. Such high expectations and a lot to achieve in their final year, whilst still juggling assessments, jobs and family commitments.
Here is a photo of some of the mentors and mentees/students this week, at our Springfield Campus holding their certificates. You will notice our mentors are holding a knitted bee each.
Busy-bees is such a great analogy not only for our students but also for our mentors.
Bees are known for their resilience and hard work. They also show expert communication and team working skills, fantastic abilities to adapt but most of all they are well known for their sustainability; they collect nectar and later go back to re-pollinate for the future. They give back.
This is what our marvellous mentors do, they give back.
Therefore, it was extremely fitting for us this year to give a bee as a thank you gift to our mentors. Not only, as a metaphor for all their hard work and for their giving back, but you may notice that the bees are in Ukrainian colours too. They were lovingly hand crocheted and 2/3rds of the cost went to charities in support of those suffering within the Ukraine. Another great opportunity to show how, as university, we are giving back.
Thank you to our students and our mentors for another successful year. See you at graduation!
