Gain industry experience and Professional practice with our manufacturing team: University of Wolverhampton Manufacturing (UWM)
The university of Wolverhampton manufacturing club was established in 2022 as part of the engineering departments ongoing commitment to professional practice and employability.
The original group consisted of 24 members from levels 4 through to 6 across automotive, motorsports, aerospace and mechanical degree students, and operated a mentoring style of support network that saw existing group members, support new members each year.
The group meets every Wednesday, to work towards manufacturing a core project such as a Track racing bicycle, but also to support other manufacturing projects from within the engineering department and from our industrial partners.
We are also fortunate to have the support of our industrial partners, in the form of sponsorship, technical expertise and industrially relevant projects and challenges.
The founders of the group have an impressive history of industrial experience and support of national projects with SMEs. The current home of engineering at our Telford campus was built with support from European funding designed to regenerate the local area with significant matched funding for business and entrepreneurs. Although this initial project (Rapid-PD) ended many years ago, the ethos surround it has become a lasting legacy for the university, local area, and our students. The groups founders have built on both their collective experience and project support to connect with employers and help shape graduates with well documented skills for a modern high-value engineering environment.
