Your IT Account Password

Your University password is critical to keeping your personal and University information safe, so please make sure it is at least 12 charactersincludes upper and lower case characters and numbers between 0 – 9. You can also include non-alphabetical characters (but please avoid colon, bar, asterisk or space : | * "). The National Cyber Security Centre's advice is to choose three random words (including numbers and symbols) in your password, that you can remember but that no-one else can guess. You can also find other useful guidance including using a password manager app.

More about this in the University's Password Policy.

Changing your password will result in you needing to sign into University systems and services on all your devices, including your mobile. This can take a little while to get organised if you have passwords saved. For example, the suite of Microsoft 365 apps will ask you to re-sign in using your new password. Please allow up-to 10 minutes for the password change to filter through to all systems. Signing into your Microsoft 365 account (your email) is a good way to check if this has updated.

For anything related to your University password, please contact the IT Service Desk using itsupport@wlv.ac.uk

You can create a new password by following these steps, you will need to have your mobile phone with you, as you will be asked to confirm your details using the method you have chosen for Multifactor authentication (this could be the Authenticator app, a text or a phone call).
