Primary Teacher Training

You could inspire the next generation of children! At the Institute of Education we offer a variety of routes to becoming a Primary school teacher at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Training as a Primary school teacher will prepare you to teach pupils in the 5-11 age range within the 3-11 age phase with alternative education setting enhancement. These Primary teacher training programmes both lead to recommendation to the Department for Education for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The focus is on teaching the National Curriculum for primary schools and specialising in teaching Key Stages 1 and 2 with some opportunities for enhancements.

Undergraduate Education courses - Another great route for undergraduates to reach Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is to do an undergraduate degree and then apply for the PGCE Primary (below). Our undergraduate Education courses offer a variety of perspectives on the wider education arena and many are combined with a National Curriculum subject putting you in an ideal position to get on the PGCE.

School Direct Routes - For those with an undergraduate degree there is also the option to consider the school direct routes to teaching which allows you to apply to one of our partnership schools for your training year.
