Software Licensing and Copyright
The standard software installed on all University PCs may be used for any legitimate University purpose. More information can be found below about the standard Microsoft software portfolio including product use rights. There are specific constraints on the use of SPSS, see below.If you plan to use any University owned standard software or specialist software for any paid for activity, including use for commercial courses or professional activities, you should check the software licence terms.
All software is subject to copyright legislation. You must not copy any software installed on University PCs. This restriction also covers add-ons such as media players and software such as EndNote. See the Conditions on using University IT resources.

SPSS software
SPSS software may be used for academic purposes including teaching and research. However the licence terms for SPSS exclude use for commercial purposes such as consultancy or paid for research of direct benefit to an external organisation. If you need to use SPSS for such tasks then it is essential to check first with SPSS (http://www.spss.com/uk) to establish whether an additional licence fee is payable.
AutoCAD software Educational Institutional Version
The Autocad software installed under this licence may not be used for commercial, professional, commercial training or other for-profit purposes.Microsoft Campus Agreement
The University subscription to Microsoft Campus Agreement allows us to run a portfolio of Microsoft software on any University owned PC. The agreement covers the following software:-- Microsoft Windows operating system upgrades (this does not cover PCs purchased without a full copy of Windows).
- Microsoft Office Professional, that is MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Access.
- Microsoft FrontPage.
- Microsoft Project.
- Microsoft Publisher.
- Microsoft Visual Studio.
- Microsoft Visio *
The agreement runs from 1st December 2008 to 30th November 2011.
* Microsoft Visio MS Campus agreement is funded by SAS and STec. All other MS Campus agreement software is centrally funded.
You should be aware that:
- Use of the software is subject to the terms and conditions of MS Campus Agreement including but not limited to limitations on liability, disclaimer of warranties and exclusion of remedies.
- The software may only be run during the licensed period.
- If the agreement is terminated or the license expires then all software run under the agreement must be deleted.
The agreement includes the “Home Use Program” which covers use of the software listed above on staff personally owned computers for work related purposes only.
