Further Information
Your teacher education course provided the knowledge, understanding and connections that will prove valuable during your career. As reflective professionals we hope you continue to harness and cultivate the core aspects of teaching and learning developed on your course. You invested heavily in your teacher education course with us, both financially and with regards to the amount of time and personal sacrifices made. Our aspiration is to build a community of practice of research active education professionals.
We have a strong collaborative relationship across our post compulsory teacher education settings – Birmingham Metropolitan College, Bournemouth and Poole College, Cheshire College- South and West, City of Wolverhampton College, Dudley College, RAF Cosford (franchised), Sandwell College and Telford and Wrekin Council (adult and community). We are pleased to see continued interest in joining our partnership across the region and look forward to welcoming at least one new setting in 2021 2022.
The post compulsory teacher education provision includes the Certificate, Professional Graduate Certificate (both in-service) and Postgraduate Certificate in Post Compulsory Education (pre-service).
We also have dedicated progression routes – from the Certificate to the BA top up degree, and from the Professional Graduate Certificate, Postgraduate Certificate and the BA top up degree to our very own specialist MA in Professional Practice and Lifelong Education.
For in-service Certificate/ Professional Graduate Certificate alumni:
You will have had early advice on QTLS and specific progression routes during your time on the teacher education course. For those who were already employed within the sector during your course, you will also have access to your own organisation’s training and CPD support programme.
Our two progression routes are the BA top up degree and the specialist MA in Professional Practice and Lifelong Education. A number of the post compulsory university team also work on modules and in supervision on the university’s PhD/ Doctorate in Education programme. We can therefore advise you on the next steps beyond your masters qualification. We also have a brochure of CPD short course offers. These are stand-alone courses with opportunities to accredit to a full module.

We advise you about QTLS and gaining employment through sessions and signposting during your course (e.g. recently held Progression and Employability Day). We also talk to you about progression routes. We run a dedicated progression route from your Postgraduate Certificate in Post Compulsory Education to our own specialist MA in Professional Practice and Lifelong Education. A number of the post compulsory university team also work on modules and in supervision on the university’s PhD/ Doctorate in Education programme.
