Assessment research scoops award

A senior lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton has scooped a top award for her innovative research into assessment feedback for nursing students.

Donna Lewis won the Research category award at the first ever e-Assessment Awards 2017 which celebrate the use of technology to enhance assessment worldwide.

The Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing entered the awards with a submission on her ongoing research project which looks at the use of audio feedback for formative assessments within pre-registration nursing.

Donna, from the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing said: “I’m extremely proud that my submission won this category. This method of feedback is not widely used within nursing and this, plus the potential impact, were the main reasons why the submission won this award.

“I will be collecting my data from September 2017 and hope that the research project improves feedback for pre-registration student nurses. I am also hoping that this feedback can be useful for enabling pre-registration student nurses to be more competent and confident in clinical practice.”

The e-Assessment Awards are organised by the e-Assessment Association (eAA), a not-for-profit organisation based in the UK. It has been dedicated to furthering technology enhanced assessment adoption since 2008.

The Research award – sponsored by NFER – specifically acknowledges the contribution made by an individual or team for innovative research that has, or has the potential to have, a significant impact on e-assessment within a particular stakeholder community or communities.

The awards ceremony was held recently at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Tower of London.
