Sport Awards 2014

Kristian, from Wolverhampton, won bronze at London 2012, handed out awards and gave an inspirational talk to a crowd of 200 people at the University’s annual Sports Awards ceremony.

Sports students from across the University were awarded based on their improvement, performance, dedication and commitment to their own personal development.

Awards included categories of Most Improved Player of the year, Most Outstanding Player of the year, Team Captain of the year, Sportsman and Woman of the year, Team Captain of the year, and many more.

Winners included Sportsman of the Year – which went to James Preece for Ice Hockey, Sports Women of the year Ebony Drysdale and Jodie Myers for Judo and Team Captain of the year Lewis Thompson, Men’s Rugby.

Mike Chamberlain, Director of Sport at the University, said: “The 2014 Sports Awards were the fourth time the University has celebrated the achievements of our students in this way with an awards dinner and yet another Olympic inspiration.

“We were exceptionally excited and honoured to welcome Kristian Thomas to the event. Kristian presented awards and was able to use his experiences to pass on encouraging and inspiring words of advice to our sports students, who can hopefully go on to similar success in the future.”

As well as his Olympic success, Kristian Thomas claimed his bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth games, team bronze at London 2012, and won Great Britain’s first ever World Vault medal, also taking bronze in 2013.
