Manufacturer praises students after University challenge
The students, from Wrekin College in Telford, will visit the Moog UK team on Thursday, 25 April 2013 at their new i54 facility in Wolverhampton.
There they will showcase their idea – an innovative website created to attract new apprentices to the business – to the company’s senior management with a view to developing the concept.
‘The Pitch’, organised by the University of Wolverhampton as part of their ‘21 and Proud’ celebrations, involved schools and businesses from around the West Midlands region and encouraged students to pitch their ideas to local companies.
Wrekin College’s innovative website idea saw them land the crown of ‘Best Moog Pitch’ at the event.
Kirsty Cusack, a teacher at Wrekin College who led the group at The Pitch, said: “Our team was asked to come up with a campaign to attract 16-19 year olds to a new Apprenticeship scheme for Moog Ltd. The team of six had to prepare a written presentation and create an exhibition stand before 'pitching' their idea four times to various judges.
“They were judged unanimously to have won the competition in their category, and the Moog executives present were so impressed with their solution that they have invited the team to visit their plant in the summer term and pitch their idea again to Moog's Board of Directors.
“This is a very significant and wonderful achievement and our team of six pupils should feel very proud of themselves - their creativity, organisation, teamwork and presentation skills throughout the event were outstanding.”
David Witton, Marketing Manager for the School for Education Futures at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “It was absolutely fantastic to work with the team from Wrekin College at The Pitch. Everyone connected with the event is delighted that the students now have a chance to express their ideas to ‘Moog’ and we wish them all the very best.”
