University Mental Health Day on Thursday 3 March

The 3 March is University Mental Health Day which aims to bring the University community together to highlight mental health issues and facilitate change.

At the University of Wolverhampton, we have weaved our commitment to develop People and Place into all we offer and all we stand for. Therefore, we have placed belonging, inclusivity, and wellbeing at the heart of our activities, which impact our individual and collective ability to flourish and grow our capabilities.

University Mental Health Day is a great opportunity to learn more about the different services that can help you with your mental health and wellbeing, and you can read more about our new student mental health and wellbeing strategy on the dedicated webpage.

Join us this Uni Mental Health Day for Let’s Talk About…. Reading for wellbeing

Thursday, 3 March, from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm on Teams

Join on Teams

In honour of the annual University Mental Health Day on 3 March, there will be a one-off “Lets Talk About” session, with Phil Adeogun, from the University Mental Health and Wellbeing Team. The theme of the session will be on reading for wellbeing, to coincide with World Book Day.

What is ‘Let’s Talk’?

Let's Talk sessions are inclusive conversations for students on current topics relating to wellbeing. Join us for the ‘Let’s Talk About’ conversations to chat about current topics, share tips and experiences, get a better understanding of uni life, and learn about a bit of psychological theory too. We offer an inclusive space, which is open to all students. Don’t worry if you don’t feel like talking, it’s okay if you would rather just listen.

You can access the virtual event from www.wlv.ac.uk/ssw/events

Crisis support

If you are a student concerned that you might harm yourself, you need to contact an emergency or crisis support service.

The mental health charity Mind has information on ways to help yourself cope during a crisis. This includes calming exercises and a tool to get you through the next few hours.

If you are on campus or in your University Accommodation, you can contact the University Security Team by calling 01902 32 1555 (5555 from an internal phone) or using the SafeZone app. They are available 24/7.

Contact NHS Direct Helpline for emergency medical and mental health advice and information 24/7, 365 days a year, by calling 111. You can also visit Black Country Healthcare – Help in Crisis.

Support for staff

The University has a range of support available through the Staff Wellbeing Hub.

The University's Employee Assistant Programme provider is CiC. The service is free of charge, completely confidential, and available to all staff members (including visiting lecturers and casual staff) and their immediate family members.

CiC provides a free, confidential telephone advice line. This enables a person to discuss any problem they may have with someone trained to listen. They may suggest avenues for support or action you could take or, if suitable, put you in touch with one of their counsellors.

The free counselling service consists of six counselling sessions per matter per year. In addition, CiC also offers access to practical advice and information, which incorporates debt information, legal, financial tax information, and family care and support.
