University of Wolverhampton Product Design students have been furnished with a range of skills after taking part in a competition held by a local furniture design company.
Thirteen third year Product Design degree students entered a competition run by Nomique – a British designer and manufacturer of quality seating and furniture for the contract market – based in Telford, Shropshire.
The competition focused on students designing a personal workstation that promotes physical and emotional wellbeing.
John Ravenhall, Managing Director at Nomique, said: “We have been involved with the University for some time now and have hired graduates as well as current students. It’s very important to support students whilst they are studying and provide them with live projects which will equip them with industry focused skills and an insight into business.
“We have run a competition for two years and the standard of work is excellent, and as a business we benefit from these bright ideas.”
Tristan Guerrero, winning student, said: “Winning the Nomique furniture competition was the biggest highlight of my year. It was a great experience to test the water with ideas and see how viable they are in a risk-free environment.
“My design for was a mix of inspired designs by Verco’s intelligent seating and Herman Miller ergonomic seating which both focus on well-being and simplicity. The infinite chair is designed to be the best biomechanical sitting position so that the body is seated in a relaxed and comfortable way.
Three prizes were on offer, £200 for the winning design (Tristan Guerrero), £100 for second place (Henry Watson) and £50 for third place (Daniel Pursall) all of whom were offered the opportunity to visit the showroom in Telford to meet the team and get a glimpse of how the business operates.
