Lecturer is keynote speaker at Istanbul University

A Senior Lecturer in Acute Adult Nursing at the University of Wolverhampton has recently returned from Istanbul University where he was a keynote speaker at the first International Turkish Symposium for Simulation in Nursing Education.

Matt Aldridge is the European President of the International Nursing Association for Clinical and Simulated Learning (INACSL) and is regarded as an international expert on the use of simulation in nursing education – providing a risk-free opportunity for students to practise clinical and managerial skills.

Working in the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing, he co-edited and authored the book 'Developing Healthcare Skills through Simulation'. He has promoted simulation in healthcare regionally, nationally and internationally over the past ten years.

He was invited, along with an INACSL colleague from America and another from Canada, to speak at the Symposium, which was held at the Florence Nightingale School for Nursing at Istanbul University. Over 400 Turkish nurse educators and clinical facilitators who were keen to learn about the use of simulation and the INACSL Best Practice Standards for Simulation attended the conference.

Matt said: “I presented on educational theories around the use of simulation and simulation design which was well received. Simulating scenarios and providing accompanying guidance is a crucial framework for teaching.

Lecturer attends the first Nursing Simulation Conference at Istanbul University in Turkey as keynote speaker.

“It’s vital that student nurses get ‘hands-on’ experience whilst learning which not only helps develop confidence but promotes a greater understanding of the skill being taught.  The conference, which is the first one to be held in Turkey, was very well attended and the potential for collaboration was discussed through networking opportunities.”
