21 years of enterprise and employability

02/05/2013

The event at the University’s Telford Innovation Campus on Wednesday 8 May will celebrate enterprise and employability.

It will include keynote speaker Brian Coffey, the Enterprise Territory Manager for Google in the UK and Ireland.

Also speaking will be two successful companies based at the campuses’ e-Innovation Centre - Richard Howells, director of Bronze Software Labs and Shane Sutherland, Development Director of Pebble Learning.

The event will also see the official opening of the new Business and Technology Centre at the campus, which provides space for grow-on businesses to develop within. The official opening is being carried out by a Telford-based student who will be celebrating his 21st birthday on the day and the first business to move in, BlueHub Solutions.

Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, Professor Ian Oakes, said: “Enterprise plays a key part in the University and it’s only right that we give it such a spotlight as we celebrate our 21stanniversary.

“I’m delighted that we’re going to be joined by some great keynote speakers from a global company such as Google to two successful companies based at our campus in Telford.

“It also provides the perfect stage to officially open the new Business and Technology Centre, which is another great addition to Telford and demonstrates the University’s commitment to supporting businesses and economic regeneration.”

There will be an opportunity for guests to take a tour of the campuses’ business innovation facilities, including the visualisation centre - with a touch-screen LCD wall display system, state-of-the-art office accommodation and business support in our e-Innovation Centre, cutting-edge engineering facilities and the launch of our business technology centre.

The event will be marked with the unveiling of one of three sculptures commissioned to mark the anniversary, created by students from the University’s School of Art and Design.

MA Fine Art student Robyn Snelling's work entitled Maturity will go on display in the SA Building.

The celebration will take place in the Thomas Telford Dining Room and visitors can register from 11:30am.
