We offer intensive subject knowledge enhancement courses for those beginning initial teacher training in Secondary Languages. You will cover a range of relevant school based content at key stage 3, 4 and post 16.
Courses
Short 8-week FRENCH SKE

This course is designed for those offering French as a second subject. The course will upskill subject knowledge on the relevant French language being taught in UK Secondary Schools in preparation for their teacher training.
Candidates will need to have a minimum of a GCSE in French (or equivalent).
Short 8-week SPANISH SKE

This course is designed for those offering Spanish as a second subject. The course will upskill subject knowledge on the relevant Spanish language being taught in UK Secondary Schools in preparation for their teacher training.
Candidates will need to have a minimum of a GCSE in Spanish (or equivalent).
Am I eligible for this SKE course?
To be eligible trainees must:
- Not already hold qualified teacher status.
- Have agreement from their ITT provider that they should attend. (i.e. it needs to be a condition of a PGCE offer)
Funding

(Please note those with a 3rd class or ordinary degree are not eligible for a bursary. No bursary funding can be paid until the final degree grade is verified.)
Bursary payments are made monthly with the first month in arrears.

Sessions take place at the University’s Walsall Campus. Sessions usually run between 9am and 4pm.
