Degree of success for pupils
More than 150 sixth form students have been studying modules for a semester at the University to gain credits towards degree courses.
The pupils from schools and colleges across the West Midlands graduated at a ceremony at Wolverhampton City Campus. They have studied modules in art and design, business, computing, literature and engineering as part of the Higher Education Modules in Schools (HEMiS) scheme.
Ten students were awarded prizes for their outstanding achievements and enthusiasm as part of the ceremony on Wednesday (Feb 10).
Henriette Harnisch, Associate Director for Education Partnerships, said: “Our HEMIS scheme is going from strength to strength and we are delighted that ever growing numbers of partner schools and colleges collaborate with us to develop it further.
“To have the young people here at the University for a special graduation on completing their HEMIS module is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their achievement with the young people themselves, their parents and carers, teachers and lecturers alike.”
The schools and colleges that took part were: Handsworth Grammar School in Birmingham; Sandwell College; Pendeford, Northicote, Wednesfield High, St Peter’s, The Kings CE and Moreton schools in Wolverhampton; Bishop Milner Catholic School in Dudley; Joseph Leckie Community Technology College in Walsall and Thomas Telford School in Telford.
The HEMiS scheme is run by Education Partnerships at the University of Wolverhampton and aims to introduce students to the higher education environment while they are still at school or college. They visit the campus once a week and experience lectures and practical sessions.
