Whether you are a new or returning student, welcome to the University Library for the academic year 2021/22! Here is a summary of what new and returning services are available for you.
To get you started, make sure you visit the library induction page which will introduce you to many of the essential services on offer including how to find books and other resources.

Opening hours

From 27 September, Libraries will be open for longer hours. You can view the latest opening for all of our libraries by visiting our Opening Hour page.

Study space

You no longer need to book in advance to visit the library but you will need to bring your campus ID card with you to enter the library.

You must also follow all of the Staying safe on campus guidance and ensure that you scan the QR code at the entrance of the library to register your visit.

But, other than that, you are welcome to come in and use any available study space, use the available PCs, access the print/copy/scan facilities, browse the collections and use the self-service kiosks to borrow items

You can now also use the new library booking system, Libcal, to book a variety of study spaces across our libraries.

For more info on the study spaces and to access the booking system, please visit the Library Space information page.

Laptop loans [NEW!]

New of this year, you can borrow a laptop from the library for up to 6 hours to be used on campus.

Our longer 30-day laptop loans are still available and these can be reserved through LibrarySearch

You can find out more on our Laptop Loan information page

Help and support

Following extensive positive feedback from students, Library Assist will remain the primary route of enquiry help and support for students. Students can use Library Assist to search our growing collection of FAQ entries, contact a member of the library team over live chat or email their queries in to us.  Phone and face-to-face support at helpdesks will continue.

For more in-depth assistance, the Skills for Learning team will provide both face-to-face and online appointments. Their programme of open workshops and training sessions will be delivered online (based on student feedback). Sessions embedded within the curriculum will be delivered either face-to-face or online, dependent on the needs of the programme.
