Students gain hands-on experience at Stafford Half Marathon

On Sunday, 19 September, a group of Sport and Exercise Therapy students represented the University of Wolverhampton by providing pre and post event massage treatments to the runners of the Stafford Half Marathon.

The support for the runner’s preparation and recovery was greatly appreciated, and the students were praised for their services and level of professionalism.

This was the maiden voyage for the Sport and Exercise Therapy course’s ‘Industry Experience’, which provides a vital opportunity for learners to develop applied practical skills necessary for industry. The students will gain a wide variety of opportunities to apply what they learn in the classroom, to the real-life environment, during their course, and this event will be the first of many.

Keith Burnett, Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Therapy, said, “The students obtained real industry experience from this exposure to practice which really enriches both their skill set and their confidence to practice which prepares them for the Sport and Exercise Therapy industry.”
