Bring your ID pass when on Campus

In order to ensure the safety of staff and students and to comply with the new Terrorism (Protection of Premises Bill), Martyn’s Law, earlier this month the University has introduced controlled access to buildings across our campuses.
Main entrances, particularly across City Campus, can only be accessed from that date with your University ID Pass and it will be mandatory to display your ID Pass while you are on University premises, whether that be working or studying.
Christopher Robinson, Head of Security at the University, said: “Following the tragedy of the Manchester bombings at the Arena Theatre, a new law is about to come into effect which requires businesses with over 800 visitors to have security measures in place to control access.
"As you are aware, University ID Passes are your responsibility, and these should not be shared with or given to anyone else for any reason. Your ID Pass will give you access through doors and barriers from the 11 November.
“Everyone is encouraged to have their ID Pass on display while you are on University premises so that you can be identified as studying or working here.”
Please note that access restrictions will be lifted during key University events such as graduation, Open Days and for enrolment.
Please read the FAQs below, and if you still have any questions you can contact the ASK@WLV team on campus, by phone on 01902 518518, or by logging a help call on e:Vision.
Frequently Asked Questions
I do not have an ID card, what should I do?
All new students studying on campus are issued with an ID card once they are fully enrolled. Please contact the library and they can check when it was printed. (Home students have their cards posted within a week of completing enrolment, international students need to collect from Harrison Library and Online or Distance Learning students need to request an ID card).
I have forgotten my ID card; how can I access buildings today?
You will need to use the intercom located by the barriers to contact Security, they will ask for your student ID number to verify you are a student, and then remotely open the barrier for you.
I have lost my ID card, what do I do?
Student University ID cards are designed to last the entire length of your course, therefore if you no longer have the card, you will need to replace it.
How do I get a replacement?
There are two options:
- The Harrison Library at City Campus can usually print one during our core opening hours.
- Alternatively, you can use Library chat to arrange for a card to be printed for you - it can then be collected from the Campus Library of your choosing or posted. Remember to provide your student number when you chat.
Is there a cost for a replace card?
Usually, there is a replacement cost of £10, however a replacement card is free if:
- Your card is faulty
- You have changed your name – make sure you have changed your name before contacting the library.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation.
