I been working at the University since 2004 and initially started here as the Plaster technician; working between Glass and Ceramics and enjoyed this role. In 2011 I applied for a new role and was successful and I became the 3D Principal technician in the School of Art. I am responsible for a large team of very talented technicians and workshops across a diverse range of subjects.

Having come from an industrial background I found working in an educational environment liberating and still do. I love my role, my team and the students I get to work with.

  • MA,
  • Mould Maker Cert: Advanced Mould Makers Cert.

In 1980 I joined Aynsley China has an apprentice mould maker. Aynsley China was a world famous ceramic company and a part of the Waterford/Wedgwood Group.

I served a 9 year apprenticeship; 3 years mould making, 2 years block and casing and plaster modelling. Then a 4 year advanced Mould making course at Stoke polytechnic college. I completed this course and passed with Distinction.

At the age of 27 I became the head modeller and run a department for new product lines. However, in 1992 I left Aynsley and set up my own ceramic company called Lane End. A little over 4 years later I started to work free-lance for many different companies including Aynsley, where it all began.

Working in industry was a fantastic experience and retrospectively taught me a lot about life. My career now benefits from those skills learnt in industry; as do the next generation of students.
