Dr Lucy Pursehouse is a Senior Lecturer situated within the Institute of Public Health and Health Studies. Prior to becoming an educator Lucy for many years occupied roles as a mental health professional in a variety areas and specialities, which included overseas humanitarian relief health work.  Lucy has extensive experience of teaching across both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Public Health and Wellbeing Portfolio and is commited to collaborative working, within different contexts, along with striving to facilitate positive learning experiences. The latter being acknowledged through two previous nominations for 'Enriching the Learning Experience' category for the Vice Chancellor's Awards for Staff Excellence, along with a Student Union Nomination in 2012 in 'Module Team Proficiency'. Throughout her time at the University Lucy has been a Course Leader, Module Lead for a range of modules  and a Key Lead on the Service User Involvement Group. A more recent role of Lucy's was leading the Thesis Module which forms part of the Professional Doctorate in Health and Wellbeing.  Further to this, she supervises both Masters and Doctoral level research projects and is a current member of the editorial board for the University On-line Journal of Health and Social Care Improvement. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and in 2020 completed the Advance HE AURORA Leaderhip Programme.

In 2018 Lucy completed her Professional Doctorate in Health and Wellbeing

Thesis Title: Growing Pains to Growing Shame and BEYOND: A Reflexive Dyadic om Stigmatised Identity

This was a qualitative research study in the form of an autoethnographical inquiry, one that offered storied narratives to explore the nature and essence of a stigmatised identity.

Thus her Research Interests include:

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing

Lucy is currently actively involved in professional doctorate research supervision and studies include qualitative methodologies; in particular narrative based inquiries.
