Who we are
The University of Wolverhampton (‘The University’, ‘we’ or ‘us’) are a ‘Data Controller’, as defined by the Data Protection Act 2018 and are responsible for, and control the processing of your Personal Data. How We Use Your Data
The University of Wolverhampton is an approved educational institute with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. As such we are required to ensure internal and external staff who supervise and assess students are adequately prepared for their role and are then provided with ongoing support in that role.
By keeping a record of your details, we can demonstrate we are compliant with the requirements of Standards for Student Supervision and assessment (SSSA) in the following ways:
- There is an adequate number of staff in place in the placement area who have been suitably prepared for their role to support students on NMC approved programmes.
- Provide evidence that students on an NMC approved programme are supervised in practice by NMC registered nurses, midwives, nursing associates, and other registered health and social care professionals.
- Provide evidence that practice supervisors, practice and academic assessors have been adequately prepared and receive ongoing support (an update) to fulfil their roles.
Information We Collect
The vast majority of information that we process about you will be provided by you. This will typically be via our website. We may get additional information from your referee or employer where one is required.

Who We Share Your Personal Data With
We do not routinely share your personal details with any other organisation. We may however share non- identifiable, aggregated data to the Nursing and Midwifery Council to demonstrate compliance and exception reporting with the Standards of Student Supervision and Assessment
We may also share personal details with organisations with enforcement powers such as HMRC or the Police. However, we will only do so if this is required to comply with our legal obligation to disclose information to these bodies.
Retention
Your data is retained for the duration of the SSSA being in place or until you inform us of a change in your employment circumstances whereby your information is not required to be stored by the university of Wolverhampton for the purpose detailed above.

As an individual, you have a number of rights available to you.
