International meeting at Springfield Campus focuses on African entrepreneurship

The University of Wolverhampton’s Springfield Campus is all set to put the spotlight on leadership and entrepreneurship in African universities by hosting a major international event.
The University’s Centre for African Entrepreneurship and Leadership (CAEL), supported by the University’s Business School, is hosting the 2nd Global Annual Meeting of the Forum of Innovation in African Universities (FIAU) at the recently opened School of Architecture and Built Environment in Wolverhampton – the former brewery which has become an important brownfield regeneration site.
Part of the CAEL innovation and knowledge exchange series, the Forum is a platform that brings together Higher Education stakeholders, including leading African universities, academia, business, government and the third sector to debate and provide solutions to the capacity gaps facing Africa's Higher Education sector in the 21st Century.
Tickets are available for the hybrid event which will be held on Thursday 7 July 2022 between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm, featuring Keynote speaker, Peter Okebukola (OFR), Distinguished Professor of Science and Computer Education and Chairman of Council National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). Professor Okebukola said: “Thank you for organising this very important event which we look eagerly forward to participating in. No doubt, Africa and the rest of the world will benefit tremendously from its conclusions and recommendations”.
Paschal Anosike, Director of CAEL and FIAU convener, said: “In an increasingly globalising and highly competitive higher education environment in which regional powers in Asia, Europe and North America are enticing talented young Africans, transitioning into entrepreneurial entities has become vital if African universities are to retain their unique place as centres of knowledge creation that play a crucial role in nurturing young talented Africans, especially in today’s world shaped by 4.0 technologies.
“CAEL has been at the forefront of working closely with Africa’s key higher education stakeholders including funders to support a cohort of African universities to transition into entrepreneurial entities. Under our newly launched pan-African knowledge exchange platform: Forum for Innovation in African Universities (FIAU), we are building upon our on-going work with these stakeholders to host this important meeting bringing together some of Africa’s leading minds in academia, business, government and the third sector as well as global ecosystem players - all with a keen interest in supporting African universities to transition into entrepreneurial entities post Covid-19.”
The University of Wolverhampton Business School offers a range of Foundation, Undergraduate and Master’s degree courses covering subjects including Tourism, Business, Human Resources and Marketing Management as well as Accountancy and Finance.
The University’s regeneration of a former brewery and brownfield site in Wolverhampton to create a construction super-campus aims to stimulate economic regeneration in Wolverhampton and the Black Country by bringing together school-level education, employer training provision and higher education on one site.
Situated on a former brewery site, Springfield has transformed a derelict area of the city. The campus is a significantly important regeneration project for the West Midlands and when fully operational will be the world’s largest construction education campus developing the skills and knowledge base for the future of construction.
