Theatre keeps it in the family

26/09/2017

The University of Wolverhampton’s Arena Theatre is keeping it in the family and is now officially registered as meeting the Family Arts Standards.

Part of the Family Arts Campaign - a large scale, national collaborative programme led by the visual and performing arts sectors to increase levels of arts engagement by families - Family Arts Standards focuses on increasing the amount and range of family friendly high-quality content as well as improving experience.

The Standards were developed by the Family Arts Campaign and the Family & Childcare Trust, funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.  They provide clear guidance on how best to welcome families to arts organisations through a set of12 guidelines accompanied by a family friendly quality mark, enabling families to identify organisations who have considered the needs of family audiences.

Neil Reading, Arena Theatre Manager, said:  “All organisations that are signed up to the Standards will provide some activities that all family members can enjoy together.  They need to be welcoming to families, with helpful staff, good facilities and considered pricing.

“The Arena Theatre prides itself on all of these attributes and its programming of family friendly shows is stronger this season than ever. We have also introduced a new range of healthy snacks and drinks behind the bar for younger patrons to enjoy, and ‘Boosterz’ seats which can be blown up by Box Office staff by request prior to a performance."

Arena Theatre, part of the University’s Faculty of Arts, will be one of 380 of the UKs top family-friendly organisations by signing up to the Family Arts Standards.
