Honour for Staffordshire fire chief

An inspirational fire and rescue chief has been recognised with an honorary degree by the University of Wolverhampton.

Rebecca Bryant is chief fire officer (CFO) of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service – the first woman CFO to have progressed through the ranks in the UK.

She received the award at a graduation ceremony at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre on Tuesday, 19 September 2017.

The Honorary Doctor of Professional Practice was awarded in recognition of Rebecca’s contribution and achievements in the fire and rescue service and acting as an inspirational leader in the field. 

Rebecca said: “I am completely overwhelmed to receive such an honour, this was certainly never something that I thought would happen and to have been recognised for my efforts throughout my career is a truly humbling experience. Being part of the Fire and Service is a real privilege and having the opportunity to support communities and help residents is very rewarding. I would like to thank the University for feeling that my contributions are worthy of such recognition and attending the ceremony was a wonderful experience.” 

Rebecca Bryant was appointed chief fire officer (CFO)/ chief executive with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in April 2016 – the first woman CFO to have progressed through the ranks in the UK.

She previously worked with Cheshire Fire Service, and Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service in roles including deputy chief executive, and director of organisational development and area commander.

She chaired the Working Together for Stoke Communities Strategic Board for two years.

A published author, Becci has successfully completed academic studies with the University of Central Lancashire, University of Warwick and Keele University.

Becci is also programme director of the Executive Leadership Programme run in conjunction with the Fire Service College, Warwick University and the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC)..

She also supports the development of the CSLE Community Interest Company as a non-executive Director on behalf of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC)

The University of Wolverhampton awards honorary degrees to people who have made a significant contribution to their field of expertise.

Graduation takes place at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton, from Friday 15 September to Friday, 22 September 2017.
