University to host Make in India event

Growth and investment opportunities in India will be highlighted to West Midlands businesses at an event hosted by the University of Wolverhampton along with the Consulate General of India, Birmingham.

‘Make in India’ on Thursday, 9 November 2017, aims to highlight the growth opportunities for medium and small scale British industries in India.

The event starts from 11am at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, is part of a weeklong series of events to mark ‘Make in India’ in several prestigious institutions of Midlands and North England.

There will be a presentation by Invest India, which is the national investment promotion and facilitation agency, and speakers include representatives from the High Commission of India in London and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

There will also be a presentation on the Access India Programme, a flagship programme of the High Commission of India in London, by the UK India Business Council, which is the knowledge partner of High Commission of India for the programme. There will be a Question and Answer session, followed by networking and lunch.

University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Geoff Layer, will also speak at the event, which will be attended by businesses and investors from the West Midlands region.

He said: “We are delighted to be a partner in the Make in India event, which aims to showcase India as an investment destination. 

“The University has long-established partnerships in India, which we continue to grow and nurture. One of the fastest-growing economies in the world, this is an excellent opportunity for businesses and investors in the West Midlands to learn more about how they can develop their potential with the excellent economic opportunities available in India.”

Consul General of India, Dr Aman Puri said: “The UK and India have a very strong trade and investment relationship. We strongly believe that there is huge potential to improve upon the current level of trade and investment, and further integrate the two economies for mutual benefit.

“We would encourage more institutional linkages of world class institutions like the University of Wolverhampton with their Indian counterparts in both the public and private sector.

“The main aim of the event is to highlight the services offered by the government as part of Access India Programme to support British SMEs to access India.’’

Make in India is a flagship programme of the Government of India to encourage businesses to manufacture in India for the growing Indian market, and using India as a manufacturing base for exporting to other markets.

Events are taking place nationally during Make in India week from 6-10 November 2017.
