Aspiring teachers invited to Christmas lectures


Aspiring teachers are invited to get into the festive spirit at a University of Wolverhampton lecture series.

People who are considering coming to the University to study teacher training can attend the Christmas Lectures at the Walsall Campus.

There will be an opportunity to meet the academic teams, become familiar with the University and find out more about the world of learning and teaching.

The first lecture will take place on Thursday, 7 December 2017 from 4pm and is themed Teachers as Transformers. Dot Heslop, Senior Lecturer in Secondary Education, will provide an introduction to initial teacher training and how to promote a love of learning among children.

The next lecture will be a Christmas GCSE English Quiz onTuesday, 12 December 2017 from 4.30pm. Howard Scott, Lecturer in Post Compulsory Education, will present a seasonal-based quiz that supports the learning of English literacy incorporating games, technology, grouped tasks, active learning and rewards.

The final lecture is titled Crafts across the Curriculum and will take place on Monday, 18 December 2017 at 4.30pm. Lisa Bramwell, Lecturer in Primary Education, and Vivienne Hayes, Oakham Primary School, will introduce a range of cross curricular craft activities appropriate for primary school aged children. 

Clair Jenkins, Deputy Director of Education, within the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing, said: “Taking place at our home of education, the Walsall Campus, the Christmas Lectures will be a festive treat. Whether you're interested in a course or have already applied and want a flavour of what to expect, everyone is welcome.”
