Paralympic gold medallist receives honorary award from University

 Paralympic gold medallist Danielle Brown MBE has been honoured by the University of Wolverhampton today for her outstanding sporting achievements.

The three-time World Champion, and record holder in Archery, was presented with an Honorary Fellowship by the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing at a ceremony at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre yesterday (Thursday Sept 17).

Danielle, from North Yorkshire, said: “I am greatly humbled, honoured and absolutely astounded to be presented such a prestigious award by the University of Wolverhampton."

In her teens Danielle was diagnosed with a condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CPRS) that affected her life tremendously. Having to relearn how to walk, Danielle could no longer take part in all the sports she loved doing.

After joining a local archery club at the age of fifteen, her life took an amazing turn and she went on to represent her country three years later.

Danielle won gold at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, and in 2010 won gold in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, making history by becoming the first Paralympian to represent England in an able-bodied event at the Games. She then went on to experience the proudest moment of her life - winning gold at the home games in London 2012.

In 2013, she was awarded an MBE New Year Honours list for her services to archery.
