Inspire Wolverhampton boosts graduate employment
The University of Wolverhampton is boosting employment opportunities for graduates in the city with a new placement scheme part funded by the City Council.
Inspire Wolverhampton will place 50 graduates with city companies for a 12-week opportunity which will give them experience while enabling employers to utilise their skills and spot their potential.
The first few graduates are now in post, working in organisations such as the marketing department at Molineux.
The University’s Careers, Enterprise and The Workplace department, made a successful bid for Public Health Funding to enable the scheme to go ahead. They are now urging more businesses to get in touch to find out more about the benefits and how they can participate.
Simon Brandwood, Head of Employability and Enterprise, said: “We were delighted that our bid was successful; we feel Inspire Wolverhampton will be of great benefit to graduates, employers and the local economy.”
There is a £500 support package available to assist each graduate in the roles they are placed within, which can be used for training, equipment or specialist support, as the project also supports those with a disability who are looking for employment opportunities in the City following their graduation.
As part of the scheme, employer awareness sessions are being held at the University in the form of a Business Breakfast Club on the first Wednesday of every month.
The Club is free to attend and takes place at the Science Park on the Stafford Road. There have been a series of presentations on a variety of topics such as working with people who are hard of hearing, have dyslexia, Aspergers Syndrome and other disabilities. The sessions have been very focused on the benefits for the employer and advice and guidance on assistance that might be required. The Breakfast Club is now well established.
The initiative runs until March 2016. The scheme is open to all Graduates living within the City who meet one of the qualifying criteria’s; you do not need to be a University of Wolverhampton Graduate.
