University marks Global Entrepreneurship Week with series of events

17/11/2015

The world’s largest celebration of creativity and innovation – Global Entrepreneurship Week (16 – 20 November) – will be marked at the University of Wolverhampton this week.

A series of activities, workshops and talks will be held by SPEED Plus – a business start-up project, part funded by the European Development Fund (ERDF) – within the University’s Enterprise Department, all aimed at helping other start-ups.

The week starts with an Exhibition of Enterprise, showcasing some of the business start-ups from the SPEED Plus project; some of the West Midlands’ brightest new companies will be present at the event, including Sensory Wise, First Call Productions and VOiD Games.

The exhibition is followed by guest speaker Rob Forkan, Co-Creator of Gandys Flip Flops, who along with his brother Paul has created a successful global brand, as well as funding their charitable foundation.

Later in the week, Olympian Louise Hazel will talk about her journey and transition from an athlete to building a successful sports and fitness business and brand.

Workshops throughout the week include ‘How to start up a business’ and ‘How to set up a social enterprise’.

The week will end with a branding and marketing workshop to provide students and graduates with the opportunity to pitch their product for a chance to win a price sponsored by Virgin Experiences.

SPEED Plus Wolverhampton Project Manager Phil Law said: “We are delighted to invite our entrepreneurs to display their offerings and give visitors the opportunity to take tours of the exhibition of enterprise, and also to kick start our week of events for Global Entrepreneurship Week.”

“The event is a fantastic way for everyone to network with the entrepreneurs and to find out more about the types of business we have supported here at the University, whilst raising the entrepreneurial aspirations.”

All events are free to attend. For further information, please visit www.speed-plus.org/events
