European Playwriting Project to take off in Wolverhampton

The University of Wolverhampton’s Arena Theatre will be working in collaboration with Creative Europe this year with the second of two Small Scale Cooperation projects.

POP Drama: circulating of European Playwriting through people’s choice, will be working with students from The University’s Arena Theatre, to run productions and give young creative minds the chance to take control of the stage.

The project will enable aspiring playwrights to work with companies to create and run up to four different plays.

The project will start Tuesday, 1 December, 2015 and run until Thursday, 28 December 2015

The productions will be produced and run in English and will be showcased across four different European Countries.

Venue Manager of the Arena Theatre and Performance hub, Neil Reading said: “We are very much looking forward to this collaboration.

“We are incredibly keen to enable the creative and colourful talent of the students here at the University of Wolverhampton the platform to put into practice their skills and grow and develop in their abilities.

“I am confident that the students will really benefit from the experiences they will get during this project”

16 performances and 18 translations have been planned to happen across the partnering countries throughout the project. There will also be four published works.

A group of students will be selected to act as the “People’s jury” and select the best works which will then be translated and published in four languages.

The University of Wolverhampton will be responsible for the package of co-ordinating students across the partnership.
