Exhibitions galore for Wolverhampton Students

 Arts graduates from the University of Wolverhampton are among the few to be selected for the New Art West Midlands 2016 exhibitions.

Six graduates from the Faculty of Arts have been announced as part of the selections for next year’s highly competitive New Art West Midlands (NAWM) Exhibitions.

The exhibitions will showcase a wide variety of winning arts ranges including sculpture, photography, video and painting works.

The graduates exhibiting their works for 2016 are:

Claire Buckerfield- Fine Art

Rosa Denby- Fine Art

Dan McLane- Photography

Aimee Milward- Fine Art

Ruth Morby- Photography

Richard Savine- Fine Art

NAWM will be entering into its fourth year. Having attracted thousands of visitors across venues last year selections this year promise to show a wider variety of art works with more emphasis on photography and moving image pieces.

The exhibitions will be hosted by galleries across the West Midlands including Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, the Barber Institute of Fine Arts and the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry.

Associate Dean and Head of the Wolverhampton School of Art (Est.1851), Faculty of Arts, Samantha Hope said: “We are absolutely delighted to have six graduates selected for New Arts WM 2016.’

 “The wide selection of students from undergraduate Fine art and Photography and post graduate Fine Art clearly demonstrates that the Wolverhampton School of Art (Est.1851) maintains its position as a highly successful and significant provider of Art education in the region, nationally and internationally.’  

Course Leader in Fine Art, Wolverhampton School of Art (Est.1851), Faculty of Arts, Maggie Ayliffe, said: “We are incredibly thrilled and proud of our graduate’s achievements. The exhibition provides a really exciting platform for the individual students as they embark on professional careers in the arts.

 “The variety  and ambition of the work selected  also reflects the University's continued support of the Arts and its ongoing investment into the space, resources and expertise necessary to enable students to achieve at the highest level in their chosen field of Fine Art practice.'

Course Leader for Photography, Wolverhampton School of Art (Est. 1851), Dr Peter Day, said: “New Arts West Midlands has worked for four years to showcase the best of Midlands-based artistic talent and this year it is very encouraging to see two photography graduates selected to showcase their work amongst the best new contemporary work in the region. 

 “The success of these students reflects the quality of work that the Photography BA is now producing that is regionally, nationally and internationally significant.

“We are proud that two graduates have been selected this year 2015 and that their work, and the students themselves will be ambassadors for all that is good within the art and design community at Wolverhampton.”

Photography graduate and selectee for NAWM 2016, Ruth Morby, said:  “University provided me with the knowledge and skills I need as an artist and the time to create the work that I wanted to create.

“The time I spent with the University of Wolverhampton, I was able to take the work I made and take major steps towards getting my career as an artist off the ground. For me New Arts is this first step.

“I was delighted when I found out I had been granted a place within the show, it is a real sense of achievement and to have my work recognised at a stature which means it is shown in well-known galleries visited by many public and art enthusiasts.

“I hope that this show will open doors for me and give me the connections and opportunities to move on with my career and get my art work out there now.”
