University of Wolverhampton students came top in national awards


Talented University of Wolverhampton students have received national recognition for success in their specialist areas.

Two BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) students, who graduated last September, were honoured at the Annual Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology (ARTP) conference held in Blackpool recently.

Awards were given to students commended by their University and to those achieving the highest marks in their professional examinations.

Stephanie Gunn, who graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with First Class Honours, received the Sue Hazard award for the Best Higher Education Institute Proposed ARTP Part 2 Performance in the UK. This follows on from her winning the Best Part 1 Student Award in 2013. 

Stephanie is the first student ever to receive both awards.

Natalie Dean, who also graduated from the University with a First Class honours Degree received an award for the Best Overall ARTP Part 2 Exam Results in the UK. 
This again follows on her from her obtaining the same award for her ARTP Part 1 examinations in 2013, and she is the first student to have achieved this consistent success in the ARTP National examinations.

Mrs Jackie Laverty, Course Leader, said “I am delighted for both of these students who have consistently performed at a high level throughout their studies. It was a pleasure to see them collect these awards at our National Conference and I am sure they will both be a credit to the respiratory physiology profession and to the University.”

Dr Gill Condé, Head of the School of Biomedical Science and Physiology, added: “I am thrilled to see two of our graduates receiving such prestigious awards. This demonstrates the large amount of work put in by these students and is also a credit to all of our hard-working lecturers.”
