Acclaimed politics Professor to give insight into leadership

15/04/2015

An internationally-renowned politics professor will offer insight into political leadership when he visits the University of Wolverhampton next week.

Professor Archie Brown, a leading Oxford don, will give a talk about his new book The Myth of the Strong Leader: Political Leadership in the Modern Age, a wide-ranging survey of political leadership over the past 100 years.

In the book, Professor Brown challenges the widespread belief that strong leaders – those who dominate their colleagues and the policy-making process – are the most successful and admirable.

The talk has been organised by Professor George Kassimeris, Professor of Conflict Studies within the Faculty of Social Sciences, who said: “Professor Brown is a highly respected authority on politics and his latest book makes for fascinating reading. We are delighted to be welcoming such a high calibre speaker and expect demand for this event to be high.”

Professor Brown’s principal research interests are the Gorbachev era, the evolution and dissolution of Communism, the comparative study of political leadership, political culture, the Cold War, democratisation, and national identity.

He will visit the University on Tuesday April 21 in the MA Building (MA030) from 1pm-2pm.
