University shortlisted by Wolverhampton Law Society

07/11/2014

The University of Wolverhampton Legal Advice Centre has been shortlisted as Community Champion of the Year by the Wolverhampton Law Society.

The Law society recognises the achievement and prestige of its local professional community.

The winner of the award will be announced at the Wolverhampton Law Society’s annual dinner on November 14.

Director of the University of Wolverhampton Legal Advice Centre, Mrs Mumtaz J Hussain, said: “I am delighted with the nomination and it is immensely pleasing that the pro-bono work of our law students, with the support of academic staff from Wolverhampton Law School and local law firms is recognised by the Wolverhampton Law Society.”

The University of Wolverhampton Legal Advice Centre is based in a shop unit in the Mander Shopping Centre and is now into its fourth year.

Provision of general advice clinics undertaken by law students under the supervision of law academic staff and the local legal profession has proven to be very helpful to the local community in gaining access to legal advice at a time when access is limited.

The University is proud to be able to give something back to the city of Wolverhampton.

Law students at the University of Wolverhampton Law School have commented that they found the law clinic experience to be very rewarding, as it not only enables them to provide some assistance to members of the local community but also enhances their learning, understanding and application of the law.
