University to host World War Masterclass

The University of Wolverhampton’s First World War research group is offering unique opportunities to explore key topics of ‘Command in War’ through lectures, seminars and conflict simulations.

The event will take place from Friday 11 July until Sunday 13 July, held at the Mount Hotel and Conference Centre based in Staffordshire.

Masterclasses will include informative talks from the University’s leading military historians; Professor Gary Sheffield, Dr Stephen Badsey, Professor John Buckley and Dr Spencer Jones.

Conflict Studies Professor Stephen Badsey, said: “The ‘History of the First World War Masterclass’ provides the opportunity for us to show the depth and strength of our expertise.

“The fact that it is happening when 'BBC World War One At Home’ visits Wolverhampton is an added bonus”

Professor Gary Sheffield, who holds the chair in War Studies, said: “I have been encouraged by the public interest in the First World War programme we have been hosting here at the University of Wolverhampton.

“It seems a logical step to offer the opportunity to explore one of the central issues of the war, command, in great depth.”

The University are also offering an optional trip to Wightwick Manor, which includes a private tour of the house and gardens with an exhibition of First World War artefacts and connections.
