Two new key appointments at University

Dr Anthea Gregory has been appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Jackie Dunne as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Access and Lifelong Learning)

Dr Gregory is currently Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Wolverhampton and is in her second spell at the University.

She started her academic career at Sheffield Business School and has also worked at Huddersfield University Business School and Hull University Business School.

Anthea previously held the position of Associate Dean for Postgraduate and Professional Programmes within the University of Wolverhampton Business School, returning to Wolverhampton in 2010 as Dean of the Business School and then was made Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences in August last year.

She said: “It has been so exciting working for an institution that seeks to provide opportunities for its community in the way that Wolverhampton does and with such ambition to make a difference to its students and wider stakeholder groups.

“It is extremely rewarding being involved in the development of the University and I look forward to playing my part in taking it further. Our aim is to deliver an excellent student experience, which exceeds expectations, and for students to achieve more than they believe they can. I look forward to assuming my new role and working with the committed staff we have here to ensure we achieve this objective.”

Jackie Dunne is currently Dean of Distance Education at the University of Leicester. She began her career at Coventry University as Lecturer in Spanish working her way up to Principal Lecturer.

She moved to the University of Leicester in 2001 as Director of Continuous Professional Development and went onto become Director of Lifelong Learning.

She said: “I am delighted to be appointed as Deputy Vice- Chancellor at the University of Wolverhampton, and am deeply impressed by the development and growth already happening at the University, and the strong commitment to high quality teaching, student opportunity, employability, research and innovation.

“Wolverhampton is a great university, committed to social and economic regeneration and to improving life chances through education; it is a privilege to be joining the University at such an exciting time and to be part of the team that will take the institution to the next stage of its development.

“I look forward to working with students, staff and the broader community to further enhance the university’s strong position and reputation for excellence locally, nationally and internationally.”

They will take up their new posts at the start of the new academic year in August following the retirements of Professor Ann Holmes as DVC (Academic) and Jane Nelson as DVC (Access and Lifelong Learning).

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, Professor Geoff Layer, said: “It is fantastic to have two people of the calibre of Anthea and Jackie joining the senior team at the University of Wolverhampton.

“It is an exciting time at the University in terms or our development so it is a great time for them both to be coming in. Their experience and achievements speak for themselves. Also Anthea’s progression demonstrates the effectiveness of the University’s leadership and management programme.
