Student designs awards for Midlands award ceremony
Josh Grice, who studies Illustration and Graphics, has designed the trophies for the West Midlands Institute of Directors’ award ceremony, at Edgbaston cricket ground.
Josh, aged 20, was selected to design the award for the ‘IoD’ by the University of Wolverhampton’s Faculty of Arts course leader, John Clementson.
John said, “Josh has responded well to a broad range of challenges this year and was a prime candidate for the commission.
“The staff team are delighted for him; the experience gained will be of immense value in his final year.
“Josh's approach was fresh, thoughtful and very professional throughout.”
The dedicated student took on the challenge to design the award alongside his university studies.
Josh said: “This is definitely a new experience, working with a huge company and presenting the awards to some well-known directors is an experience in itself, let alone knowing I have designed the actual trophy they are so proudly holding.”
John Phillips, Regional Director for the Institute of Directors said. “This was an important project for us. Our director awards are very important as many of our members have achieved great things sometimes under difficult circumstances and they deserve to have their achievements rewarded.
“We were delighted to commission Josh to make our trophies and he was a pleasure to work with and quickly became involved in the detail and spirit of the project.
“It was great to have individual art pieces as trophies and much more personal than buying an ‘off the shelf’ product.
“I am sure the young designer will have a great future as a commercial artist and we will do our best to give him a lift along the way.
“This all fits together with a wider programme of student mentoring we run with the Business School.
“The IoD very much values its relationship with the University of Wolverhampton, the Business School and the School of Creative Arts and Design.”
The creative student hopes to pursue his dream in the Graphic Design and Illustration industry after he graduates next summer.
