University course receives prestigious accreditation


An innovative music course created by the University of Wolverhampton has been awarded accreditation by an organisation made up of audio industry professionals and academics.

The BA (Hons) Music Technology course, based in the University’s Faculty of Arts, has received the accolade from JAMES - Joint Audio Media Education Support.

The committee from JAMES granted a three-year accreditation for the course after finding it ‘highly relevant to current industry practice’ during a visit to the University.

The accreditation period has been granted from November 2013 to October 2016, with a review after 18 months.

The benefits of the accreditation include maintained links with the industry, dedicated space on the JAMES website and invitations to join the JAMES educators network and to attend their meetings.

Speaking about the award, Matt Bellingham, senior lecturer in Music Technology at the University, said: “The accreditation is a validation of the quality and industrial relevance of the course.

“It is also a great industry link which will improve the quantity and quality of visiting practitioners for lectures and talks.”

Made up of dedicated audio industry professionals and academics, JAMES' role is to create and maintain supportive links between education and the media industries.

JAMES accredits education on behalf of the APRS (Association of Professional Recording Services), MPG (Music Producers Guild) and the UK Screen Association.
