Sikh Channel welcomes University graduate

A graduate from the University of Wolverhampton is celebrating after landing a placement with a global TV channel.

Kiranpreet Hothi, who graduated from the University’s BA (Hons) Broadcasting and Journalism course this year, has taken up an internship with the Sikh Channel based in Aston, Birmingham.

Kiranpreet has already provided some voice over work for the channel and has been asked to take part in some on-air presenting too.

Kiranpreet’s achievement comes after her well received final year project on Asian weddings, specifically amongst the Sikh community, which was supervised by Lee Kenny and Dr Opinderjit Kaur Takhar.

A re-edited version of her project is also to be aired by the channel.

Speaking about Kiranpreet’s placement, Dr Takhar said: “I am extremely proud of Kiranpreet.

“Her final year project involved discussing financial issues associated with the ever-increasing demand of lavish wedding venues amongst the Asian, specifically Sikh, community. 

“Her hard work has paid off with the exciting opportunity of an internship with the Sikh Channel. Well done Kiranpreet!”

Speaking about the exciting time ahead of her, Kiranpreet said: “This is a big step in my dream career and this wouldn’t be possible without the University of Wolverhampton, and of course the tutors who helped me out”.

The Sikh Channel is an established community television station serving over four million Sikhs worldwide, with millions of additional viewers also able to access the channel online.
