World-renowned scientist to visit University

The renowned Lord Winston, known as a professor, medical doctor, scientist, television presenter and politician, will give a talk to an audience of school pupils and teachers, University of Wolverhampton staff and students as well as invited guests.

His lecture will be on the theme of advancements in science and technology in respect to human health, and will be held at the University’s City Campus on Monday 15 July.

After his address, Lord Winston will be undertaking a tour of the University, including a visit to the institution’s renowned Neuro-oncology Research Centre.

Lord Winston’s visit has been organised as part of the University’s ‘21 and Proud’ series of celebrations, marking 21 years since the institution received University status.

Speaking about the visit, Professor John Darling, Dean of Research and Head of the Research Policy Unit at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Lord Winston to the University and everyone here is looking forward to his visit immensely.

“Lord Winston is a world-renowned scientist and his visit is a huge coup for the University. I’m particularly pleased that after his talk Lord Winston will be guided round our Neuro-oncology Research Centre, which is leading the way nationally in identifying the genetic causes of brain tumours and the treatments to deal with them.”
