Forensic science experts back University courses

Two forensic science courses offered by the University of Wolverhampton have been recognised for their quality by a top authority.

The University’s HND in Forensic Science and its BSc (Hons) in Forensic Science and Criminology have both been given official recognition by The Forensic Science Society (FSSoc).

The courses were submitted for approval to the FSSoc and were awarded the recognition Forensic science experts back University coursesfor demonstrating that students on the course were given extensive and thorough tutoring in all aspects of forensic science.

The benefits of FSSoc recognition include discounted forensic science texts and journals, free materials and case studies from industry conferences, and regular updates about developments in the forensic profession.

The University has been running both courses for a decade, and was one of the first Universities to gain accreditation for BSc (Hons) Forensic Science, but this is the first time the FSSoc has elected to award recognition to HND courses or combined subject courses, which offer a lesser but significant proportion of forensic science teaching in their programmes.

Dr Raul Sutton, Head of Biology, Chemistry and Forensic Science at the University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, said that FSSoc recognition means a lot to graduates.

He said: “Because these two forensic science courses use modules from our fully accredited BSc (Hons) Forensic Science course, we have always been confident that they offer high level provision in Forensic Science.

“We are delighted that FSSoc recognition gives these courses an external kitemark that acknowledges the quality of their forensic content”
