University gears up for Clearing

06/08/2013

On Thursday 15 and Friday 16 August representatives from the University will be out in the community at the Bullring, Birmingham, and the Merry Hill shopping centre, Dudley, to advise students as well as making conditional offers based upon evidence of required grades.

University staff will also be going out to 12 local schools and colleges including Dudley College, the City of Wolverhampton College, ACE Academy in Tipton, and Telford College of Arts and Technology (TCAT), on results day to offer their support.

The University will also be providing advice at its City Campus in Wolverhampton during the Clearing period.

Its new advice centre, ‘The Gateway@The George’, will be open during A Level results week and provides a place where students can drop in and talk to advisers about full time and part-time courses at the University.

‘The Gateway@The George’ is open from 9am-5pm every day, however during results week it is offering special Clearing sessions on Tuesday 13 August and on results day, Thursday 15 August, from 2pm-7pm.

The University will also be hosting a special Clearing Open Day on Saturday 17 August between 10am-3pm, where students will get the chance to look around the University’s facilities, meet prospective lecturers and talk to experts.

Speaking about the University’s active role in aiding students with the Clearing process, Jane Nelson, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Access and Lifelong Learning, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to students taking part in the Clearing process.

“Clearing is often an anxious time for students so we believe as a University that it is vital to offer as much assistance as possible. Our proposal to make on-the-spot offers and reaching out to the community are good examples of our commitment in this regard.

“I would encourage prospective students to take advantage of the help the University can offer them.”
