23/08/2013

Adam Hart-DavisThe broadcaster, known for his shows Local Heroes and What the Romans Did For Us, will give the speech as part of an event called “From ideas to reality – getting help with product development.”

The show - to be held at the RAF Cosford Museum on Thursday, October 17 – is aimed at businesses from the West Midlands and will focus on the tools, technologies and public sector support programmes that can help firms develop new products.

There will be free workshops on intellectual property, technology licensing, 3D printing and product assessment throughout the day.

There will also be a series of talks, the keynote session of which will be Mr Hart-Davis’s speech, where he will look at important inventors and scientists who hailed from the West Midlands.

The whole event is being organised by the Innovative Product Support Service, (IPSS) which helps businesses in the development of new products and processes.

The IPSS has been set up and run by the West Midlands University Consortium – which includes the University of Wolverhampton – and is funded by the European Union.

The programme is particularly interested in businesses developing environmental, digital, electronic or medical technologies. IPSS offers businesses up to six days of free assistance in areas such as product design, market research, electronics development and intellectual property rights protection.

Professor Andrew Pollard, Director of the IPSS programme, said: “From our work with regional businesses, we could see that there was a need for more information about the fantastic business support that is available through the University of Wolverhampton and its regional partners.

“We are delighted that Adam Hart-Davis has agreed to come and talk at the event and we believe that his passion for science, inventions and history coupled with hosting the event at RAF Cosford will offer an exciting and informative event.”

Places are free to book but will be limited. Anyone wishing to book should visit www.wlv.ac.uk/ipssor call Abi Hopkins, IPSS Programme Manager, on 01902 321105.
