Successful business visit from Oman

High profile figures from Oman visited Wolverhampton to find out more about enterprise at UK universities.

The University of Wolverhampton recently welcomed the Minister of Higher Education, Her Excellency, Dr Rawya Bint Saud Al Busaidiya, and Dr Muhammed Al- Bandari, Omani Cultural Attache.

The purpose of the visit was to illustrate the University’s focus on enterprise, innovation and knowledge transfer as the visitors are interested in growing these areas at Omani universities.

They were joined by two alumni of the University, Dr Abdullah Saif Ahmed Al Sabahi and Lefeer Muhamed Marakkarackayil, from the Middle East College in Oman, who both received honorary degrees from the University in September.

The visit took place at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, which supports the development of innovative businesses working in science, technology, knowledge-based and creative sectors. It is now home to around 80 tenant businesses working in a broad range of disciplines.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor External Affairs, Professor Sir Geoff Hampton, said: “We were delighted to welcome the high profile visitors from Oman to showcase the leading role the University has in the economic regeneration of the region. Oman is an emerging market for student recruitment so we are keen to build links and highlight what Wolverhampton and the wider region has to offer.

“Our guests were interested in the various initiatives and projects we are involved in to encourage and support enterprise and innovation and also increase the employability of our students. We were pleased to give them an insight into what can be achieved by working alongside small to medium sized enterprises.”

The delegation was met by Professor Sir Geoff Hampton, Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise Professor Ian Oakes, Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Recruitment Jane Nelson, Director International Jo Gittens and Director of Business Solutions Marc Fleetham.
