Creative students at the University of Wolverhampton are celebrating after being shortlisted for prestigious film-making awards.

Film-makers shortlisted for prestigious awards
Three projects by students at the School of Art & Design have been shortlisted in the regional Royal Television Society Student Awards 2012.

The awards recognise the best audiovisual work created by students as part of their course.

Filmmakers Phil Noakes, Daniel Anderson, Jamie Campbell and Jannicke Mikkelsen have been shortlisted in the Fiction category for their short film Shoeless.

Shortlisted in the Animation category are Jamie Cartwright for his piece Cecil the Cat Burglar and Charlotte McCabe for her work Fragmented.

The students will attend the regional award ceremony in Birmingham on November 22 where their entries will be judged against nominees from universities and colleges from across the Midlands.

The regional winners will then head to London in spring 2013 to take part in the National Awards.

Steve Arnott, course leader for BA (Hons) Animation said: “I am extremely proud of both Film-makers shortlisted for prestigious awards
Jamie and Charlotte for receiving this recognition for their work. Jamie’s work was a highly professional piece that pushed the boundaries of contemporary animation whilst Charlotte’s piece combined traditional and digital animation techniques to create a work of perfect balance with the sum greater than its parts.”

Tracy McCoy, course leader for BA (Hons) Video and Film Production, added: “The team behind Shoeless should be extremely proud of their work. Led by first-time Director-Producer Phil Noakes, they created a technically very accomplished short-film with some wonderful camera work, despite the small budget and minimal time frame they had to work to.”
