Innovative designs to be showcased
Students at the University of Wolverhampton have been drawing up plans to redesign the Molineux Stadium and a former brewery site as part of their final year projects.
The Civil Engineering students were tasked with creating new ideas for the regeneration of the Springfield Brewery Site in Wolverhampton, the redevelopment of Wolves’ Molineux Stadium or high speed rail infrastructure.
The final year School of Technology students will present their ideas at an exhibition and oral presentation on Wednesday, 16 May 2012 at the Wolverhampton City Campus from 6pm, in MC001. The exhibition is open to the public.
Peter Mills, Principal Lecturer in Civil Engineering, said: “We have been really impressed by the way students have tackled the brief and the ideas they have generated.
“While all the projects are different, the students have addressed structural, transportation, environmental and commercial management aspects of each project.
“For example, the groups looking at redeveloping the Molineux had to justify any changes in use and present the business case, as well as performing the traditional roles of the civil engineer in ensuring the structural performance of any design.
“We look forward to seeing the students formally present their solutions and summary posters will be on display in the foyer of MC001.”
The briefs were open-ended so students were encouraged to be creative and use their ingenuity.
To mimic a team working environment the designs were performed in groups of five or six, with each student having a designated role to play, as structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, environmental consultants, project managers and transportation engineers.
