Entrepreneur shares secrets with business students
The man behind one of the country’s most successful house builders gave staff and students an insight into his business career at an event at the University of Wolverhampton.
Steve Morgan spoke to a 100-strong audience at the City Campus, at an event organised by the University of Wolverhampton Business School (UWBS).
Mr Morgan is chairman of Redrow, the Bridgemere Group and of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.
He is also one of the University’s honorary graduates and was made of Doctor of Letters by the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure in 2010.
During the 90 minute talk on Wednesday he shared the highs and lows of his business career, including how he returned to Redrow in 2009 after stepping down from the company nine years earlier.
The avid football fan also discussed his passion for Wolves. He said although the club was relegated this year it was in a sound financial position with no debt, a new stand and new academy on the way and planned to bounce back as soon as possible to the Premier League
Dr Anthea Gregory, Dean of UWBS, said: “It was inspiring to have Steve talk to our students and to hear where he has come from and what he has done in his business career.
“I hope that hearing first hand from an entrepreneur about how a business can be created and run can help them, both as part of their studies, and afterwards.
“It is vital that we provide as many opportunities as possible for our students to forge close links with business and get a real view on what it is to run and manage a business and what it takes to succeed.”
Following the talk Mr Morgan took questions from students and staff. They covered a range of topics including what his biggest challenges have been, Government policing on new housing and why entrepreneurs get involved in football clubs.
