Bully puts best foot forward for Walk

01/05/2012

Steve Bull swapped the pitch for the lecture theatre to give staff and students at the University of Wolverhampton an insight into his football career.‌

The Wolverhampton Wanderers legend and all-time leading goal scorer was centre stage for the Audience with Steve Bull event at theProfessor Geoff Layer and Steve Bull University’s Millennium City building yesterday.

More than 100 people came along to hear Bully, as he’s affectionately known, talk about his career with Wolves and England.

The event was part of efforts to promote the Free Radio Walk of the Black Country, which is being supported by the University of Wolverhampton.

The 10 mile walk between Himley Hall and Dunstall Racecourse in June is in aid of Promise Dreams - a charity which provides help, treatment and support for seriously or terminally ill children and their families.

A percentage of proceeds will also go towards the Dudley and Wolverhampton Mayoral charities.

Steve, who is an honorary graduate of the University of Wolverhampton, said: “It was lovely to see so many people and talk to them about what inspired me to be a footballer and to try to show that, despite knock backs, hard work can pay off.

“I hope that it helps inspire people to sign up for the walk and to get involved. It is a fantastic event and it can help change and improve a child’s life for the better.”

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Geoff Layer, said: “It was great to welcome Steve and to have the opportunity to hear him talk.

“He is passionate about Wolverhampton and the Black Country and a great ambassador for the area, which is why he was made an honorary graduate in the first place.

“We as a University are proud to be involved with the walk and hope as many of our staff, students and the wider public get involved.”
